The incarcerated leader of the proscribed Biafra group, IPOB, has sent a message to Nigerian students from prison. He wanted to do a giveaway of a million naira if any of them could perform a task for him. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has released a surprising report through his legal team led by Barrister Aloy Ejimakor. The IPOB leader promised to give a student the sum of N1 million if they can do something for him. What he wanted the student to do for him was suspected to be a plot to let Nigerians know that the federal government was detaining him illegally.
Remember that it’ s been over 4 years since Kanu was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) and detained in their custody under the allegation of terrorism filed against him by the Nigerian government. After dragging the matter for months, the court set him free and acquitted him of charges of terrorism and treasonable felony.
Surprisingly, the same court granted a stay of execution of Kanu to the Nigerian government, although, the judgment was given by another judge identified as Justice Haruna Tsamani. The order given by the judge made Kanu remain in detention till this very moment.
However, in a statement released by Barrister Ejimakor on behalf of Kanu on Thursday, he said the IPOB leader has pledged to give any Nigerian law student the sum of N1 million if he/she can find and provide a past judgment in Nigeria where a judge granted a stay of execution to a suspect or defendant after he or she has already been acquitted and discharged.
However, the request made by the IPOB leader doesn’ t seem to have been something that has ever happened before, hence, it is impossible for anyone to find the precedent as it is happening in Kanu’ s case for the first time. The Nigerian government is using its power to make sure the IPOB leader is not released. What is your reaction to the promise made by Kanu?
