WEEKS After Simon Ekpa’s Arrest, SEE The Good News CDS Musa Announced To Nigerians
Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has revealed that the arrest of Nigerian- Finnish citizen, Simon Ekpa, has significantly reduced the level of insecurity in the South- East zone of Nigeria. Ekpa, a self- acclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, was arrested in November 2024 by Finnish security agents due to his violent and inciting campaigns on radio and social media.
General Musa made this statement while defending the 2025 defence proposal before the House Committee on Defence. He attributed the decrease in tension to the arrest of Ekpa and the launch of Operation Udoka by the Defence Headquarters. Operation Udoka, which was launched in the third quarter of 2024, aims to flush out bandits and end the sit- at- home situation in Igboland.
According to General Musa, ” With the arrest of Simon Ekpa, the tension in the South- East has greatly reduced. Also with Operation Udoka, we’ re picking up most of the leadership of these groups, taking them out and making sure that the place is peaceful. ” He also noted that the sit- at- home on Mondays is gradually diminishing, and the military is working with local leaders to ensure peace in the region.
In addition to the kinetic efforts, General Musa emphasized the importance of non- kinetic approaches in tackling insecurity challenges. He stated that the military had worked ahead to ensure a peaceful holiday season and would continue to deploy intelligence and synergy in their operations.
In response, a member of the Committee, Fatima Talba, urged General Musa to prioritize the welfare of junior officers, stating that their remuneration must be good to ensure their support for the military’ s vision. The Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Babajimi Benson, assured that the lawmakers would ensure judicious spending of every naira to strengthen the operational capacity of the Armed Forces and deliver tangible results.
