The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the leadership of Tony Okocha, has accused former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, of conspiring with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to undermine the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Okocha alleged that Amaechi has been holding clandestine meetings at night to strategize on how to destabilize the APC- led government.
In a statement issued by Okocha, the faction claimed that Amaechi’ s actions are aimed at exacting revenge for Tinubu’ s perceived neglect of Amaechi’ s political influence and contributions during the 2023 presidential elections. According to Okocha, Amaechi, a former Rivers State governor and a key player in the APC, has allegedly been working behind the scenes with Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.
The allegations come amidst heightened political tensions within the APC, particularly in Rivers State, where intra- party rivalries have grown more pronounced since the general elections. Okocha stated that Amaechi’ s purported actions are detrimental to the unity and progress of the APC and are designed to weaken the party’ s hold on power at the national level.
” Rotimi Amaechi has been holding nocturnal meetings with Atiku Abubakar and other opposition elements. His aim is to destabilize the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and make the APC vulnerable in future elections, ” Okocha alleged. He further called on the APC leadership to take decisive action against Amaechi to prevent any damage to the party’ s stability.
Amaechi’ s alleged grievances stem from his fallout with the APC leadership following the party’ s presidential primaries, where Tinubu emerged as the flag bearer. Despite being a frontline aspirant in the primaries, Amaechi reportedly felt sidelined and neglected in the post- election arrangements, including political appointments and decision- making processes within the party.
