Ngozi Orabueze, the deputy to Simon Ekpa, the detained Finland- based self- proclaimed Prime Minister of the United States of Biafra Government in Exile, has announced the commencement of recruitment into various security units under the separatist movement.
In a statement dated December 25, 2024, titled ” Announcement of Conscription Call to Serve the United States of Biafra Security Forces, ” Orabueze, alongside Solomon N. , identified as the Secretary of Defence, outlined the structure and purpose of the recruitment exercise.
The recruitment drive targets various branches of what the agitators describe as the ” Biafra Defence Forces. ” These include the Biafra Defence Forces, Biafra Liberation Army, Biafra Navy, Biafra Airforce, and specialized squads. According to the statement, the exercise is intended to strengthen the capacity of their self- declared armed forces.
” The USB under PM Simon Ekpa, represented by the Chief of Staff/Deputy Prime Minister and the Defence Minister, is hereby calling on all eligible Biafran citizens to join the Biafra Defence Forces, Biafra Liberation Army, Biafra Navy, Biafra Airforce, and special squads, ” the statement read.
Orabueze further explained that the recruitment process will be decentralized, with state commanders, deputy commanders, state administrators, and special trainers managing the exercise at local levels. This approach, she claims, will ensure broad participation and effective coordination of recruits.
The recruitment announcement highlights the persistent challenges posed by separatist movements in Nigeria and raises questions about the government’ s approach to addressing the root causes of discontent in the South- East.
