The task force commander, Maj. – Gen. Hassan Dada, urged citizens to support the joint task force, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility. ” Remember, security is everybody’ s business. It is not in the hands of security agencies alone, ” he said.
On December 21, troops from Sector 1 of the task force conducted an ambush operation along Amouka- Umouka Road in 9th Mile, Udi LGA, Enugu, to prevent kidnappers’ operations. The troops recovered an AK- 47 rifle, loaded magazines, Dane guns, and destroyed a house and shrine used by the IPOB members.
Additionally, on December 14, troops arrested three suspected kidnappers at Itungwa in Obingwa LGA, recovering an AK- 47 rifle, G3 rifle, pistol, ammunition, and other items.
The Nigerian Army’ s actions come amid ongoing tensions between the government and IPOB, which has been proscribed as a terrorist organization. However, human rights groups have raised concerns about the military’ s tactics and the impact on civilians.
