A devastating incident has shaken the community of Evbuotubu in Benin City, Edo State, as a man identified as Emmanuel Asemota has been arrested for allegedly beating his wife to death. The tragic event occurred on June 27 at the couple’ s residence on Ogiedegue Street, off Ason Bus Stop.
According to reports, Emmanuel’ s wife, Victoria Asemota, 50, refused her husband’ s demand for sex around 11 pm on the fateful night. This refusal sparked a violent outburst from Emmanuel, who brutally beat his wife, inflicting severe injuries upon her.
The victim was rushed to four hospitals, but three of them rejected her due to the severity of her injuries. She was eventually referred to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where she succumbed to her injuries on July 7.
The Edo Police Command has confirmed the incident, and the suspect is currently in custody. The police spokesperson, SP Bello Kontongs, stated that Emmanuel will be charged with murder.
The couple had been married since 2002 and had two children, aged 19 and 15. The community is still reeling from the shock of the incident, and many are calling for justice to be served.
