BREAKING! FG Launch New Civic Platform To Monitor Work Rate Of Politicians In Office, Tinubu Rated Low– See Details
A new civic platform called KnowDemWell has been launched to evaluate Nigerian politicians and track their performance in office. The platform has rated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’ s first 18 months with a concerning score of 31. 97%. This innovative tool categorizes politicians’ campaign promises and their actual performance across seven key indices, providing Nigerians with a transparent way to assess their leaders at all levels of government.
The launch event featured Raphael Adebayo, the founder of KnowDemWell, who is also a Nigerian author and activist. He emphasized that the platform is a non- partisan initiative aimed at enhancing civic education and accountability within the political system. Adebayo detailed the platform’ s approach, which involves analyzing political manifestos and monitoring performance in critical areas such as democracy, human rights, poverty alleviation, and socio- economic progress.
In its evaluation of President Tinubu’ s administration, KnowDemWell highlighted controversies surrounding his academic qualifications and noted nine significant corruption allegations. The ratings revealed a particularly low performance in essential areas, including Commitment to Democracy, Human Rights, and Gender Equality, which received a score of just 24%. Additionally, the administration’ s efforts in poverty eradication were rated at 20%. In contrast, a medium performance score of 50% was attributed to the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development, a move not originally included in Tinubu’ s campaign manifesto.
One of the platform’ s significant innovations is a performance- rating system that classifies politicians as low, medium, or high performers based on their fulfillment of campaign promises. It also provides comprehensive profiles of political figures, detailing their social, economic, and political backgrounds. Adebayo stated, ” Our goal is to use the platform to normalize political and electoral consequences for politicians in the country. ”
KnowDemWell serves as an extensive, unbiased information hub where users can explore and understand the ideological stances and policies of politicians and candidates across Nigeria. Adebayo clarified that the ratings are derived from genuine assessments of political actions relative to campaign commitments, asserting, ” We have not manufactured any of the promises and performance indicators used to arrive at our rating. ”
He criticized the current political climate, describing it as a form of ” totalitarian democracy, ” where authority is concentrated in a central government that undermines democratic principles through media censorship and suppression of opposition. This system, according to Adebayo, enables the ruling authority to maintain power while presenting a façade of democracy.
Looking ahead, Adebayo expressed aspirations for KnowDemWell to expand its reach, aiming to replicate the platform across various levels of governance in Nigeria and eventually throughout the African continent. The platform will continue to evaluate politicians’ manifestos, organizing their promises and performance under seven specific indices, which include Commitment to Democracy, Human Rights, Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Education and Social Change.
In conclusion, KnowDemWell represents a significant step towards promoting accountability and transparency in Nigerian politics, encouraging citizens to engage critically with their leaders’ performance.
