A new civic platform called KnowDemWell has been launched to evaluate Nigerian politicians and track their performance in office. The platform has rated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’ s first 18 months with a concerning score of 31. 97%. This innovative tool categorizes politicians’ campaign promises and their actual performance across seven key indices, providing Nigerians with a transparent way to assess their leaders at all levels of government.
The launch event featured Raphael Adebayo, the founder of KnowDemWell, who is also a Nigerian author and activist. He emphasized that the platform is a non- partisan initiative aimed at enhancing civic education and accountability within the political system. Adebayo detailed the platform’ s approach, which involves analyzing political manifestos and monitoring performance in critical areas such as democracy, human rights, poverty alleviation, and socio- economic progress.
In its evaluation of President Tinubu’ s administration, KnowDemWell highlighted controversies surrounding his academic qualifications and noted nine significant corruption allegations. The ratings revealed a particularly low performance in essential areas, including Commitment to Democracy, Human Rights, and Gender Equality, which received a score of just 24%. Additionally, the administration’ s efforts in poverty eradication were rated at 20%. In contrast, a medium performance score of 50% was attributed to the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development, a move not originally included in Tinubu’ s campaign manifesto.
