On Tuesday, the Gombe State Police Command announced the arrest of two individuals believed to be involved in a counterfeit currency scheme. The suspects, identified as Garba Audu, who reportedly holds the title of ” Youth Leader of APC, ” and Kabiru Abubakar, both reside in Layin Arfa, Gombe State.

The incident unfolded when the victim, Idris Usman, was on his way to Lariski Market riding his Bajaj motorcycle. As he transported two bags of beans, the suspects approached him with an offer. They negotiated a sale price of ₦210, 000 for the beans. However, Usman soon discovered that the cash he received was fake. Alarmed by this revelation, he raised the alarm, which led to the swift apprehension of Audu and Abubakar.
During a press conference, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Buhari Abdullahi, the Police Public Relations Officer for Gombe State, provided details on the case. He confirmed that the suspects admitted to their involvement in the crime during police interrogation. They revealed that the counterfeit money had been supplied by an accomplice identified only as Abdullahi, also known as ” Manci, ” who is currently evading capture from law enforcement.
ASP Abdullahi shared insights into the progress of the investigation, stating, ” Upon searching the suspects’ vehicle, we recovered two bags of beans along with ₦39, 000 in counterfeit currency. ” He emphasized the importance of public vigilance and cooperation, which proved crucial in this case.
The police expressed their determination to combat such criminal activities and encouraged the community to assist them in their efforts. ” If anyone has information about the whereabouts of Abdullahi, we urge you to come forward. Your input is invaluable in ensuring that justice is served, ” he added.
