TRAGIC! ! UNIZIK Lecturer Fatally Shot In Anambra During A Carjacking Attempt
A university lecturer, Dr. Fabian Osita, was shot and killed by car thieves in Awka, Nigeria. The incident happened on Monday night when Dr. Osita was driving home from work. The thieves tried to take his car, but Dr. Osita resisted. He was shot in the head and died. The police are still looking for the killers. According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred near the high- tension area in Aroma, Awka. The thieves blocked Dr. Osita’ s car and tried to take it. When he resisted, they shot him. The police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to catch the killers.
The university community is in shock over the loss of Dr. Osita, who was a respected lecturer. Colleagues and students of Dr. Osita have been paying tribute to him, describing him as a kind and dedicated lecturer. The university has also issued a statement condemning the killing and promising to support the police investigation. Speaking on the unfortunate incident, a source said: ” Yes he was shot dead along that high tension yesterday(Monday) evening. Some people are saying that he was a lecturer at UNIZIK and from Nteje. The armed men double- crossed his Toyota Corolla car as he was driving and made an attempt to snatch it, but he put up a resistance and unfortunately, he was shot on the head and he died instantly. The hoodlums abandoned his corpse and drove away in his vehicle. He was already dead before help could come to him.

Journalists who visited UNIZIK on Tuesday, learned that the deceased was a lecturer in the Business Department of the institution until his death on Monday. The Chief Security Officer of the institution, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed that Dr. Fabian Osita was shot dead around 7: 30 p. m. on Monday at the high- tension area in Aroma.
Chukwurah stated that members of the university’ s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) were planning to visit the Government House in Awka to protest against the rising insecurity in the area. ” Yes, he was shot dead at about 7: 30 p. m. on Monday at the high- tension area in Aroma. It was a case of car snatching. The hoodlums attempted to snatch his Toyota Corolla car, and when he resisted, they shot him. He was an academic staff member in the Business Department of the institution. The incident has left the university community in mourning.
” It is important to note that he was killed outside the university premises. The matter has been reported to the DSS. ” When contacted, the Anambra State police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, also confirmed the incident and said an investigation had commenced to identify the perpetrators. Ikenga said, ” The Anambra State Police Command has begun an investigation into the murder of Mr. Fabian Osita. Information shows that Osita, a staff member of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, was shot by yet- to- be- identified gunmen yesterday, 16/12/2024, at 10: 10 p. m. at Aroma Junction. ”
He added that the police sympathized with the family and the management of UNIZIK and urged eyewitnesses and members of the public to provide any information that could help with the investigation. The Anambra Police PRO also added that: ” The murders also made away with his car, a Corolla 2006 model, Ash colour with an Enugu Plate number. To this end, the Command while condoling his family and friends, especially the Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, calls on anyone with any useful information that can aid the investigation to please come forward in this regard.
