Robber’s Car Enters Into Gutter After Victim Did This Inside The Vehicle, See Their End
The Ogun State Police Command successfully foiled a robbery attempt in the Sagamu area on December 6, 2024, due to the quick response of a surveillance team. This led to the arrest of two suspects and the rescue of their intended victim. The incident occurred around 2: 00 p. m. near Danco Filling Station on the Lagos- Ibadan Expressway, where the suspects were caught attempting to flee after their robbery plan went awry.
According to an exclusive statement shared with *PUNCH Metro*, the suspects were driving a Golf 3 car in a suspicious manner when their vehicle attracted the attention of patrolling officers. As the car sped by, a voice from inside shouted, ” Thief! Thief! ” which quickly drew the attention of the nearby community and police surveillance team.
The command’ s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, described how the vehicle, while attempting to evade capture, veered off the road and crashed into a gutter. She stated, ” As the car came to a halt, angry community youths descended on the two occupants, beating them severely before police arrived to disperse the crowd and rescue the suspects. ”
The suspects, identified as Michael Adegoke, 46, and Kingsley Christopher, 35, sustained serious injuries from the mob attack and were immediately taken to Live- Well Hospital in Ajaka Sagamu for treatment.
Odutola revealed that the robbery attempt targeted 46- year- old POS operator, Arubi Godwin, who had boarded the suspects’ vehicle, a blue Golf 3 car with registration number AGL 284 GV, earlier that afternoon. Godwin, carrying ₦2. 5 million meant for a bank deposit, was unsuspecting of the gang’ s intentions when he joined the vehicle already occupied by four other passengers.
As the journey progressed, the suspects revealed their true intentions by forcibly taking Godwin’ s money. When they attempted to eject him from the moving car, Godwin resisted and struggled with the driver for control of the steering wheel. This altercation caused the vehicle to veer off the road and crash into the gutter, severely damaging the car.
Two of the suspects, Adegoke and Christopher, were apprehended at the scene by the community and police, while three others managed to escape. During questioning, the arrested suspects confessed to being members of a notorious ” one- chance” syndicate that had been operating along the Lagos- Ibadan Expressway for over five years. They admitted to targeting unsuspecting passengers and robbing them during transit.
Odutola noted that preliminary investigations into the case are ongoing and that the matter will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for further investigation upon completion. She added that the stolen vehicle had been extensively vandalized and further inquiries will aim to uncover more about the syndicate’ s operations.
In light of the incident, the police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant when boarding commercial vehicles, especially along high- risk routes like the Lagos- Ibadan Expressway. The swift intervention by the surveillance team highlights the importance of community awareness and rapid response in thwarting criminal activities.
