Abdullahi emphasized that the PDP had already done a lot for Jonathan during his time in office, and as a member of the party, there was no reason for the party to ” woo” him. He also pointed out that the former president’ s wife, Patience Jonathan, had previously made it clear that her husband would not be returning to the presidential race. In a past statement, Mrs. Jonathan had vowed that nothing would make her husband contest again, asserting that he had no unfinished business in the Presidential Villa. Abdullahi referenced this remark as a key factor in questioning why the party would even consider Jonathan as a candidate for the 2027 election.
According to Abdullahi, the party has not had any formal discussions with Jonathan regarding a potential presidential bid. He noted that under the Nigerian constitution, Jonathan is legally allowed to run for president again if he wishes, but that the PDP had not extended any formal invitation to him.
