Akpabio Finally Reveals Why Tinubu Abandoned APC Members, Appointed Strong PDP Chieftain Wike As Minister
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Friday provided insight into why the former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, was appointed into the Federal Executive Council (FEC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking at a book launch held to mark Wike’ s 57th birthday in Port Harcourt, Akpabio extolled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as a transformative leader and a diligent public servant.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio praised Wike’ s exceptional record of public service, which earned him the role despite being an opposition politician.
He remarked: ” Your performance as a local government chairman, Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Government, Minister, and two- term Governor gave you the job. President Tinubu recognised your unparalleled work ethic and track record. You have turned Abuja into a model city, making it a capital befitting our nation. In less than two years, you have transformed Abuja into a massive construction site. ”
The Senate President highlighted Wike’ s numerous contributions to the development of Nigeria during his tenure in various political roles. From his early days in local government administration to his governorship, Akpabio noted that Wike consistently demonstrated visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to progress.
He described Wike as a man shaped by resilience, referencing his birth in 1967, a turbulent period in Nigeria’ s history: ” Born during the stormy year of 1967, you emerged not in calm waters but in the midst of conflict. This fortitude has defined your character, enabling you to rise above challenges and serve with distinction. As a two- term governor, you have been a leader of purpose, leaving an indelible mark on our nation’ s history through the bridges— both literal and symbolic— you have built. ”
Akpabio also commended Wike’ s passion for sports and youth development, stating that his efforts have nurtured future generations.
