Former Presidential Aide Reveals How Oppositions Can Defeat APC In 2027
Chief Okoi Obono- Obla, a former presidential aide, has called for a strategic merger of smaller opposition parties in Nigeria, arguing that a united front is essential to creating a formidable political force capable of effectively challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on the widely- followed Let’ s Talk Nigeria programme on Sparkling FM, Obono- Obla emphasised the need to minimise fragmentation within the opposition to build a stronger, cohesive bloc. ” We need fewer but stronger parties, ” he declared, advocating for mergers rather than the less effective alliances that have characterised opposition politics in recent years.
Drawing parallels to the historic formation of the APC in 2015, when multiple parties, including the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), united to successfully dislodge the then- ruling government, Obono- Obla stressed that history proves the power of a united opposition. ” A divided opposition only strengthens the ruling party, ” he remarked.
Obono- Obla took a critical stance on the recent reports of potential collaboration between opposition leaders Peter Obi and Musa Kwankwaso. Labeling their efforts as ” media hype, ” he argued that superficial alignments without deeper structural integration are unlikely to yield the desired impact. According to him, real political change requires concrete actions, not just headlines.
The former presidential aide also addressed the growing political discourse surrounding President Bola Tinubu’ s potential re- election bid in 2027. While some have argued that it is premature to discuss the next presidential election, Obono- Obla disagreed, asserting that such discussions reflect a healthy political culture. ” It’ s not too early to begin talking about the 2027 presidential election. Freedom of speech is essential for democracy, ” he stated.
Obono- Obla further explained that engaging in early political discourse demonstrates the electorate’ s interest in governance and strengthens democratic practices. ” Politics is an everyday matter. Discussing 2027 is as relevant as addressing other national issues, ” he added.
In his concluding remarks, Obono- Obla urged opposition leaders to remain consistent in their positions and avoid compromising their credibility by secretly collaborating with the ruling government.
