Dangote Truck Crushes Bus Carrying Students Home After Exam, See Where It Happened
A tragic accident involving a Dangote truck has claimed the lives of two students from Borno State University (BOSU), sparking widespread protests in the state. The incident occurred on Wednesday in the Jimtilo area along the Maiduguri- Damaturu road, leaving the university community in mourning.
The Information and Public Relations Officer of BOSU, Abba A. Massa, confirmed the heartbreaking news, stating that the victims were a final- year male student and a female second- year student. Both lost their lives when the high- speed truck lost control and collided with the BOSU students’ bus as they were returning home after completing their semester exams.
The crash resulted in multiple injuries among the students, prompting an emergency response. Those injured were rushed to Umaru Shehu Hospital in Maiduguri and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for urgent medical care.
In a statement, Massa explained the magnitude of the incident: ” Several students sustained various degrees of injuries and were evacuated to nearby hospitals. Unfortunately, two students succumbed to their injuries. ”
BOSU’ s Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Babagana Gutti, along with the Head of Service of Borno State, Barrister Malam Fannami, Registrar Zanna Mustapha Kashim, and other university officials, remained at the hospitals throughout the night to support the injured and their families.
The university community has also rallied in solidarity. A busload of BOSU students arrived to express their condolences and donate blood to save the lives of their injured peers.
The two deceased students are scheduled to be buried on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Their tragic passing has left the university in deep sorrow, with messages of condolence pouring in from the academic community and beyond.
This devastating accident highlights the urgent need for improved road safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future. The BOSU community continues to mourn the loss of two promising young lives cut short in their prime.
