In a significant development, the Biafra Defence Force (BDF) under the leadership of Simon Ekpa, a self- proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile who is currently detained in Finland on allegations of terrorism has claimed that they killed three Cameroonian soldiers in the Bakassi Peninsula on Tuesday morning.
According to a statement from the Defence Headquarters of the Biafra Liberation Forces, the group’ s naval wing, known as the Black Marine, launched an attack on a Cameroonian gunboat belonging to the B. I. R (Rapid Intervention Battalion) of Cameroon. The BDF claims that the bombing resulted in the neutralisation of three Cameroonian military personnel.
The BDF’ s statement, posted on X and cited by LATEST_NEWS Blog, read: ” The Biafra naval force wing, the Black Marine, bombed a gunboat belonging to the terrorist B. I. R army of Cameroon, neutralising three personnel of the Cameroonian terrorist group on Tuesday morning in the Bakassi Peninsula. ” This incident marks a notable escalation of tensions in the region, particularly in the contested Bakassi Peninsula, which has been a source of dispute between Cameroon and Nigeria.
Meanwhile, in other news from Nigeria, the Katsina State Police Command made a significant breakthrough in its fight against terrorism and banditry on Tuesday. Authorities arrested Aminu Hassan, a 25- year- old suspected terrorism financier, who has been allegedly aiding armed bandits terrorising the Danmusa Local Government Area (LGA) and its surrounding areas.
The arrest, which took place on November 19, 2024, during a routine patrol along the Yantumaki and Kankara highway, uncovered two pairs of military uniforms in Hassan’ s possession. These uniforms were reportedly hidden in a black polythene bag.
Following his arrest, three additional suspects were apprehended in connection with the case. The suspects are Lawal Ahmad, 29, and Isma’ il Dalhatu, 24, both from Zaria LGA in Kaduna State, and Shafi’ u Adamu, 28, from Danjaba Village, Soba LGA, also in Kaduna State.
In total, authorities recovered 14 pairs of military uniforms and one police uniform from the suspects. These uniforms are believed to have been intended for delivery to the armed bandits to aid in their criminal activities. The suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime and will soon face charges in court after the completion of ongoing investigations.
Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Sadiq, stated during a press briefing at the command’ s headquarters that the arrest of Hassan marked a significant achievement in the battle against terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry in the state. He praised the efforts of the operatives involved in the arrest and urged the public to continue providing information that could help in the fight against criminal activities in the region.
The Commissioner of Police for Katsina State, Aliyu Musa, also commended the professionalism of the officers involved in the operation and called for further cooperation from the public to assist law enforcement in curbing the rising wave of armed banditry across the state.
