President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has secured a landmark $2. 5 billion investment in Nigeria’ s livestock sector from JBS S. A. , a leading Brazilian meat processing company. Announced during the G20 summit in Brazil, the project will span 1. 2 million hectares of land in Borgu Kingdom, Niger State, strategically located along the Sokoto- Badagry Superhighway, a major route connecting Nigeria’ s northern and southern regions.
The investment will establish large- scale livestock, rice, and maize farms, aiming to transform Borgu Kingdom into a major hub for agricultural production. This initiative aligns with President Tinubu’ s commitment to boosting Nigeria’ s agricultural sector, addressing food security, and creating economic opportunities.
Borgu Kingdom holds special significance for President Tinubu, as he was conferred the title of *Jagaban Borgu* during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State. Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State emphasized that this project underscores Tinubu’ s dedication to the development of Borgu Kingdom and Niger State as a whole.
While addressing the people of Borgu in New Bussa, Governor Bago highlighted the investment’ s potential to address longstanding farmer- herder clashes by improving livestock management. He added that the project would stimulate economic growth, create thousands of jobs, and empower local communities.
To further support local development, Governor Bago announced a donation of N100 million to Borgu women’ s cooperative groups, aimed at fostering economic empowerment and self- reliance.
