Islamic Group Unites With CAN, Sends Powerful Message To FG; SEE What They Said
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Nigeria Supreme Council on Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) have united in a powerful condemnation of the escalating terrorism and widespread hardship that continues to plague the nation. The two organizations, which represent Nigeria’ s Christian and Muslim populations, have called on both federal and state governments to act swiftly and decisively in curbing the growing violence and instability.
This united front was made clear at the fourth quarterly meeting of the Nigeria Inter- Religious Council (NIREC) in Abuja on Tuesday, where both CAN President Daniel Okoh and NSCIA President- General, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ ad Abubakar III, also the Sultan of Sokoto, voiced strong concerns. Their remarks echoed each other’ s calls for urgent action against the perpetrators of terrorism and violence. They emphasized the need for the government to hold those responsible for the ongoing chaos accountable, regardless of their social standing or influence.
One of the main issues highlighted by Okoh was the paradox of Nigeria’ s natural resources, which have, instead of benefiting the nation, become sources of conflict and insecurity. Okoh criticized the management of resources like oil, gas, and solid minerals, stating that their exploitation has often been driven by greed, leading to strife both within local communities and between different ethnic and regional groups. ” Instead of being a blessing, our natural resources have, in many instances, become sources of conflicts and insecurity, ” Okoh said.
Both Okoh and the Sultan of Sokoto reiterated that the government must take immediate action to identify and punish all those involved in acts of terrorism, regardless of their position in society. Their statements reflect growing concern among religious leaders and Nigerians alike about the urgent need for effective governance and the protection of citizens from the devastating effects of terrorism.
