FG activates mobile court to end harassment of travellers at Nigerian airports
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has approved measures by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN to address the harassment of travellers by government agencies at Nigeria’s international airports.
In a post on X on Thursday, Keyamo revealed the launch of ‘Operation Air Clean,’ an initiative designed to eradicate corrupt practices and improve service delivery, in response to a rise in passenger complaints at airports.
As part of the reforms for the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, joint inspection tables will be dismantled and replaced with intelligence-driven searches and advanced scanners to expedite security checks.
Additionally, passenger processing will be streamlined by consolidating checkpoints, allowing officers from the Department of State Services, DSS and Immigration Service to share counters, thereby reducing congestion.
Keyamo also approved the establishment of mobile courts to hasten the prosecution of offenders, particularly touts, along with a strict zero-tolerance policy against Bureau de Change operators and car-hire personnel involved in unauthorized activities.
FAAN plans to introduce new airport facilities, including improved lighting, better signage, free Wi-Fi for passengers, and designated meet-and-greet areas.
