Gunmen Abduct Nine Persons Including Newly Elected Councillor In Kogi State
The incident occurred early Wednesday morning when the attackers struck at about 1am, shooting indiscriminately before taking their victims from their homes.
The Odo-Ape community in Kogi State is currently in fear after gunmen abducted nine people, including the newly elected councillor for Odo-Ape Ward in the Kabba-Bunu Legislative Council.
The incident occurred early Wednesday morning when the attackers struck at about 1am, shooting indiscriminately before taking their victims from their homes.
A source from the community, speaking anonymously, told PUNCH, “The people of Odo-Ape are now living in fear, not knowing who will be the next victim.”
The attack comes just a week after three people, including an eight-year-old boy, were kidnapped in the same community.
Seven of the latest victims are residents, including five Gwaris and two Bassas, while only the councillor is an indigene.
The source appealed to security agencies and the state government to protect lives and property and ensure the safe release of the abductees.
The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer SP William Anya has yet to respond to inquiries, but a top government security official confirmed the incident.
He said, “The state security apparatus has already swung into action and will make their position known in a short time.”
The official also assured residents that the government is “on top of the situation” and urged them to go about their daily activities without fear.
