TRUTH IS OUT! See The Real Reason Why Some Governors Rejected Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bill
The real reason behind the rejection of President Bola Tinubu’ s proposed tax reforms by northern governors has now been revealed. Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State disclosed that the northern governors needed more time to consult on the issue before making a decision. Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’ s Sunday Politics, Governor Zulum explained that the northern governors advised President Tinubu to withdraw the bill to allow for further consultations.
Contrary to some reports that have suggested political opposition to President Tinubu, Governor Zulum emphasized that the northern governors are not against the president. In fact, Zulum pointed out that the northern region overwhelmingly supported Tinubu during the 2023 elections, providing him with over sixty percent of the votes. He noted, ” The north gave Tinubu over sixty percent of votes during the 2023 elections, which is a clear indication of their support for him. ”
Governor Zulum, however, maintained that his opposition to the tax reform was based on its potential negative impact on the northern states. He argued that the proposed VAT provision in the tax reform would benefit only Lagos and Rivers States, while other regions, particularly the north, would suffer. Zulum shared, ” We did our own research and concluded that we would lose. ”
He also refuted claims that his stance on the tax reform was an attempt to undermine the president’ s administration. Zulum affirmed his continued support for President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating, ” I am a strong member of APC. If you can count two governors before 2019 and 2023 who were in support of Tinubu, you can mention Governor Zulum. “
