The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) has taken drastic measures by sealing off several banks and business premises over unpaid Land Use Charge (LUC) debts totaling ₦1. 7 billion. This enforcement, which commenced earlier this week, also included the sealing of Hamdala Hotel over an outstanding debt of ₦115 million.

Among the affected institutions are major financial establishments such as Zenith Bank, FCMB, Keystone Bank, Unity Bank, and the Bank of Agriculture. Other premises targeted include the Chicken Republic outlet, Forte Oil, New Nigeria Development Company, GT Bank parking lot, and the A. G. Leventis building.
Speaking to journalists, Aysha Ahmad, KADIRS’ board secretary and legal adviser, explained that the enforcement exercise was carried out under the authority of Section 104 of the Personal Income Tax Act. The action is further supported by Section 24, Sub- Sections (1, 2, and 3) of the Kaduna State Tax Codification and Consolidation Law, 2020, as amended.

According to Ms. Ahmad, the decision to seal these establishments followed repeated demand notices issued by the Kaduna State Geographic Information Service (KADGIS), which were largely ignored. She emphasized that the unpaid land- based revenue liabilities were substantial and required urgent compliance.
