DON’T RELEASE HIM! Catholic Bishop Sends Unexpected Message To Finland, Demands Continued Detention Of Simon Ekpa; See Details
The Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Jonas Benson, has made a passionate appeal to the Finnish government, urging them to maintain the detention of Simon Ekpa, a key figure in the Biafra separatist movement. The bishop described Ekpa as a ” rascal” whose actions have caused significant harm to Igbo land and its people.
Bishop Benson voiced his concerns during the funeral of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, where he openly criticized the impact of Ekpa’ s activities on Anambra State and the wider Igbo community. According to the cleric, Ekpa’ s actions have not only created tension but have also endangered the peace and stability of the region.
The bishop particularly highlighted the struggles faced by Anambra’ s Governor Charles Soludo in addressing security challenges exacerbated by Ekpa’ s actions. He called on key political leaders, including the Senate President and other senators, to rally behind the governor’ s efforts to restore normalcy in the state.
” Simon Ekpa is a rascal whose activities have only brought suffering to our people. His detention is a relief to us, and I urge Finland to sustain it, ” Benson said.
This statement aligns with other prominent voices in the region, including the apex Igbo socio- cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which described Ekpa’ s arrest as a ” huge relief” for Ndigbo. The federal government has also weighed in, revealing that Ekpa was arrested for actions detrimental to Nigeria’ s unity and peace.
As the situation unfolds, the bishop’ s plea underscores the urgent need for collective efforts to address the security and social issues facing Anambra and the entire South-East region. For many, Ekpa’ s detention serves as a critical step toward ensuring peace and stability in the Igbo land.
