Six employees of the Ebonyi State Ministry of Health have been arrested for allegedly attempting to steal government property.
The suspects, including Mr. Ndukwe Ayansi, were apprehended on Saturday night on the ministry’s premises while attempting to move the stolen items to sell them.
Governor Francis Nwifuru confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.
“Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has ordered the arrest and prosecution of Mr. Ndukwe Ayansi and five others for allegedly diverting materials meant for the State’s Ministry of Health,” the statement said.
“You are selling government documents without approval on a Saturday afternoon,” the Governor remarked.
“Our rural hospitals are requesting registers, data entry forms, and hospital cards. Unfortunately, the materials produced by the government are being sold illegally. This is pure sabotage of our efforts in the health sector and will not be tolerated,” he added.
Meanwhile, the suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
