WATCH VIDEO As Gunmen Kill 4, Injure Others While Enforcing Sit- At- Home Order In Anambra
Tragedy struck in Anambra State on Monday morning as unknown gunmen, reportedly loyal to Simon Ekpa’ s faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), launched a series of deadly attacks across two communities in Dunukofia and Idemili North Local Government Areas. At least four people were killed, and several others left critically injured as the gunmen enforced the controversial sit- at- home order.
The attacks occurred around 9: 00 AM and 10: 00 AM, when gunmen stormed Ukpo and Abatete, shooting indiscriminately and chanting solidarity songs in support of the sit- at- home order. Eyewitnesses reported hearing the attackers shouting, ” No Biafra, no freedom, ” as they wreaked havoc on the communities. In Ukpo, a motorcycle rider was shot dead, while his passenger, severely injured, was rushed to a nearby hospital.
In Abatete, the President General (PG) of the community was critically injured during the assault. Sources disclosed that the PG was quickly transported to a hospital in a tricycle (Keke) for urgent medical attention. Four members of the Anambra State Vigilante Service were also killed, while several others sustained injuries.
One eyewitness at Abatete shared the terrifying experience, stating, ” Come and see ooo. Unknown gunmen attacked our community today. Our PG was gunned down, but thankfully he didn’ t die. We’ ve taken him to the hospital and are praying for his recovery. This senseless violence has left our community shaken. ”
Another source from Ukpo described the chaos: ” It was chaos. The attackers came out of nowhere, shooting indiscriminately. We are still trying to process what happened. ”
The Anambra State Police Command has not officially confirmed the details of the attack, but an anonymous police officer verified the incident. ” The police have launched an investigation into the attacks and are working to apprehend the perpetrators, ” the officer added.
This attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents that have plagued Anambra in recent weeks, following similar deadly assaults in Nibo and Awka that left more than 15 people dead or injured. The ongoing violence has caused widespread fear in the state, as residents continue to endure the terror imposed by those enforcing the sit- at- home order.
