VIOLENCE! Shock As Popular Religious Group Fight Each Other Regarding Successor; SEE Details
A video has surfaced online showing members of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star rejecting Roland Olumba Obu, the son of the Late Olumba Olumba Obu as their Messiah.
Remember that the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, a Nigerian Christian religious order, has been embroiled in a prolonged succession problem since the death of its founder, Olumba Obu.
The situation escalated lately when irate worshipers in a particular branch in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, rioted, damaging the image of Olumba’ s first son, Rowland, who leads a segment of the group.
Olumba’ s daughter, Ibum, leads another faction.
A video posted on WhatsApp groups and Facebook shows a guy in a white cassock removing Rowland’ s photo from the wall and shattering it on the floor, eliciting shouts from worshipers.
Rowland’ s photo was displayed alongside Olumba’ s, but the enraged worshipers did not attack the latter.
” Bring it down! ” A woman’ s voice could be heard screaming in the background of the video as the man in a white cassock broke the glass frame on the ground.
” This is who we are worshipping, ” a man’ s voice could be heard yelling repeatedly as the camera panned to and then fixed on Olumba’ s photo on the wall. It is unclear when the incident occurred.
According to Amah Williams, the sect’ s spokesperson, the event occurred in Uyo at the Nsikak Edouk Avenue branch.
Rowland and Ibum, together with hundreds of their followers, are claiming leadership of the 68- year- old sect following their father’ s death, causing a terrible rift in a once- united and strong organization based in the Biakpan town of Cross River State in Nigeria’ s south.
He portrayed them as rebels who refuse to accept Rowland’ s leadership; he did not refer to Rowland by name because Olumba’ s successor is venerated among believers as ” King of Kings and Lord of Lords, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu” .
