A video currently making rounds on social media has sparked widespread reactions after claiming that the United States President- elect, Donald Trump, ordered the Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
However, IPOB has swiftly moved to debunk the claim, asserting that the video is fake and generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
In an official statement, IPOB clarified that the video was doctored, emphasizing that Donald Trump had not issued any such directive. ” The video, whose screenshot is attached here, is AI- generated. Disregard the AI- generated clip of Donald Trump ordering Tinubu to free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, ” the statement read.
While reiterating their demand for Kanu’ s release, IPOB urged its supporters and the general public to remain cautious and refrain from spreading misinformation. They specifically called out Simon Ekpa, a self- proclaimed ” Prime Minister” of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, accusing him and his followers of fabricating and promoting the fake video.
” In as much as we want our leader to be freed, IPOB members must disassociate from Ekpa and his Autopilot members that are spreading that fake video. That video is fake, not real. Avoid it, ” IPOB added.
Simon Ekpa, a Finnish- based activist and vocal advocate for Biafra’ s independence, has often clashed with IPOB’ s mainstream leadership. The group accuses him of undermining their efforts by spreading misinformation and pursuing a separate agenda.
Ekpa, however, remains undeterred and continues to push his vision for the restoration of Biafra’ s independence. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), he announced the hiring of a U. S. – based lawyer, Arman Dabiri, to bolster his legal team ahead of his planned December 2 declaration of Biafra’ s independence.

” In preparation for the declaration of the restoration of the Independence of the United States of Biafra and the pursuit for recognition, the Biafra Government is proud to announce to the Biafra people that we have added Arman Dabiri, a very BIG Iroko, to our international legal team, ” Ekpa wrote.
Ekpa claimed that Dabiri would focus on securing U. S. recognition for the proposed Biafra government, while other international lawyers handle various assignments related to the independence bid. He encouraged his supporters to research Dabiri’ s credentials to understand the caliber of expertise being brought into the effort.
