In a tragic incident in Plateau State, Nigeria, an 18- year- old named Agugu Adau has reportedly confessed to killing his mother over a dispute involving a charm, which he claimed was part of his inheritance from his deceased father. The incident, which has shocked the community, took place in Kisaghyip village, Bassa Local Government Area, where Adau allegedly attacked his mother using a knife meant for harvesting potatoes.
According to Agugu’ s account, his father, a traditional healer or native doctor, had promised to pass down a special charm to him— a charm believed to bestow the power to appear and disappear at will. Agugu claimed that his father had entrusted the charm to his mother on his deathbed, instructing her to give it to him when he turned 18. Now that he had reached the specified age, Agugu asserted that he was entitled to the charm, but his mother refused to hand it over, leading to a deadly confrontation.
During a phone interview with a correspondent, Agugu recounted his frustration and anger. ” When I was 14 years old, my father showed me a charm that allowed him to vanish and reappear. He said that when I turned 18, he would give it to me. Four years ago, on his deathbed, he entrusted it to my mother, telling her to give it to me when I was of age. But now, she has refused, ” he said. Agugu claimed that his mother even threatened to throw the charm into a river if he continued to press her about it, which, according to him, was the final provocation that led him to attack her.

Agugu stated that after killing his mother, he took a sum of 20, 000 naira (approximately $25 USD) that she had with her and used it to buy a mobile phone, a new shirt, and a pair of slippers. After the murder, he reportedly left his mother’ s body in the bush, which was discovered days later by family members and law enforcement.
David recounted that after returning from work the day after the murder, he asked Agugu about their mother’ s whereabouts, only to be met with evasive responses. ” When I asked him where she was, he said he didn’ t know. But later, I saw him with a new phone, a new shirt, and slippers, which raised my suspicions, ” David recalled. He then gathered other family members, and together they pressed Agugu for answers about their mother’ s disappearance. Agugu continued to deny any involvement until David eventually sought police intervention.
With the involvement of the police, Agugu soon confessed to the murder and led the authorities, along with family members, to the farm where he had left his mother’ s body. By that point, the body had already begun to decompose, adding to the anguish of the family as they faced the grim scene.
