The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have expressed strong condemnation of the Nigerian Army for what they described as the dissemination of false information regarding the alleged arrest of the ” founding father” of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the armed wing of IPOB.
According to IPOB, this announcement is a deliberate attempt to manipulate the judicial system ahead of a crucial legal battle concerning their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and the controversial proscription of the organization by the Nigerian government.
In a statement released on Saturday by IPOB’ s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the pro- Biafra group criticized the Nigerian Army’ s actions, accusing the military of spreading disinformation in a bid to exert undue influence on the judicial proceedings. The statement emphasized that IPOB will not be intimidated or swayed by such tactics, which they believe are aimed at compromising the justice system.
Powerful noted, ” We, the great and noble family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the leadership of the indomitable Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu, wish to address the latest desperate attempt by the Nigerian Army to undermine the fairness of the upcoming court case involving our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Their claim of arresting the so- called ‘ founding father of IPOB’ is nothing but a baseless and disgraceful lie, intended to sway the judges in the case of IPOB’ s illegal proscription. ”
The statement continued by questioning the credibility of the Nigerian Army’ s claims, particularly the use of the term ” founding father” of IPOB. ” They have now taken it a step further by claiming to have arrested someone they are calling the ‘ founding father of IPOB, ‘ a person entirely unknown to us, ” Powerful remarked.
He sarcastically asked, ” Where, then, is the ‘ founding mother’ of IPOB? What kind of officer would willingly stand before cameras and microphones to make a mockery of their own military by spouting such nonsense? It’ s an embarrassment to the Nigerian Army, devoid of class, honor, or dignity. ”
Emma Powerful emphasized that the true history of IPOB is well- documented and publicly known. He pointed out that Nnamdi Kanu has always been the founder and leader of IPOB, and that the Nigerian Army’ s recent claims contradict this well- established fact.
” The history of IPOB and how it was founded is common knowledge, ” he stated. ” Before the Nigerian Army’ s invasion of Nnamdi Kanu’ s residence on October 14, 2017, in an attempt to kill him, they knew very well who the leader and founder of IPOB was. It is shocking that they are now trying to confuse the public with this false narrative. ”
He continued, ” Is the Nigerian Army now pretending not to be aware that Nnamdi Kanu is the founder and leader of IPOB? Are they ignorant of the fact that one of the main charges against him in their unlawful case is that he leads the IPOB? ”
