Jackson Ude, a former aide to ex- President Goodluck Jonathan and an independent journalist, has stirred discussions with his recent revelation of the ministers who may either be retained or sacked under President Bola Tinubu’ s administration.
This comes in the wake of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) making significant structural changes to the federal ministries, notably scrapping the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, shared this update on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, disclosing that the decisions were made during a FEC meeting in Abuja. The council’ s move to abolish these ministries comes as part of Tinubu’ s broader strategy to streamline government operations and improve efficiency.
According to Onanuga, the Ministry of Regional Development will now take over the responsibilities of all regional development commissions. These include agencies such as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and the North East Development Commission.
This new ministry is expected to oversee and coordinate the development efforts of these regions more effectively. In the same vein, the duties of the Ministry of Sports Development will now be handled by the National Sports Commission. This change is aimed at centralizing the sports sector and enhancing performance.
Additionally, the FEC approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, forming a unified body that will manage Nigeria’ s growing tourism and cultural sectors.
In a separate but related report, Jackson Ude has made headlines with his claims about the potential reshuffling of ministers in President Tinubu’ s cabinet. Posting on his X account, Ude shared a list of ministers who scored high marks on a performance report, as well as those who ranked poorly.

However, on the lower end of the performance spectrum were the Minister for Steel Development, Shuiabu Audu, Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), Heneiken Lokpobiri, Minister of Petroleum (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola.
Ude noted that Oyetola, who is considered a close ally of President Tinubu, performed poorly in both the Bala Usman and KPMG audits. Ude further alleged that Oyetola attempted to influence the Bala- Usman report but was unsuccessful, while the KPMG audit was beyond his reach.
These performance evaluations, Ude claims, will likely serve as the basis for determining which ministers will remain in Tinubu’ s cabinet and which will be let go. As President Tinubu looks to strengthen his administration’ s performance, a reshuffle may be imminent, with these reports playing a crucial role in the decision- making process.
