More information has surfaced regarding the reasons behind the removal of Adegboyega Fasasi, the former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Naija News reported that Fasasi’ s exit was directed by the new Director- General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Tosin Adeola Ajayi, marking a significant shift within the agency.
Rasheed Atanda Lawal, a deputy director currently participating in a fellowship at the National Institute for Security Studies, has been appointed as the new CSO.
Sources indicate that Fasasi was handed his removal letter shortly after accompanying President Tinubu back to Nigeria on Saturday night, following the President’ s two- week vacation abroad.
Fasasi has been instructed to proceed on a year- long security course overseas, a move that is often seen as a way to diplomatically transition senior security personnel out of sensitive roles.
This reassignment is part of broader changes within the DSS, spearheaded by Ajayi with the full endorsement of President Tinubu.
Upon Ajayi’ s appointment in August 2023, Tinubu tasked him with the mission of restoring the DSS’ s integrity and professionalism.

” He was promoted three times in one year, advancing ahead of senior DSS officers who had been in the service for six to eight years before him, ” a source revealed.
