Jackson Ude, a former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan and an independent journalist, has made a startling claim about President Bola Tinubu’ s potential cabinet reshuffle. Ude alleges that only three out of Tinubu’ s 48 ministers are trusted, which suggests that there may be a massive sack.
Before President Tinubu left for a two- week vacation in London, widespread reports emerged about an impending cabinet reshuffle. These reports have now gained more weight with Ude’ s recent revelations, which were shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter) and cited by the LATEST_NEWS Blog.
According to Ude, several ministers, upon hearing they may not retain their positions in the reshuffled cabinet, attempted to leave the country under various pretenses. Ude claimed that these ministers sought permission for foreign trips, citing reasons like medical needs, family events such as children’ s graduations, or the desire for a short holiday which the President has denied.
He wrote; ” President Bola Tinubu has stopped several Ministers seeking a foreign trip in the wake of an imminent cabinet reshuffle. Insiders told me some of the Ministers who have heard they are not making it back to the cabinet sought permission to travel abroad claiming they needed medical attention, going for their children graduations or needing a short holiday. ”
One notable case is that of Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence. According to Ude, Matawalle sought permission to travel to Egypt to visit his wife and some of his 30 children. President Tinubu reportedly denied his request, instructing Matawalle to return to Sokoto to address the insecurity issues in the region.
He stated; ” For instance, Minister for State, Defence, Bello Matawalle, had sought permission to travel to Egypt to see his wife and half of his 30 Children there. The President was said to have denied his request, ordering him to return to Sokoto to go deal with the insecurity there. The Minister planned to travel with some of children who had visa issues when others left few months ago. ”

Ude further suggested that Tinubu has confidence in only three of his ministers, which could lead to a major reshuffling of the cabinet. However, Ude noted that it is unlikely all 45 ministers will be dismissed. Those who have performed above average may be given a second chance.
He said; ” Sources hinted me that out of 48 Ministers, Tinubu has confidence in only three. Although it may not be likely 45 Ministers are sacked. Some who performed above average are likely to get a second chance. Several Ministers are now very quiet and inactive, preferring to wait for when the sack is announced. ”
This speculation has left many ministers reportedly uneasy and inactive, as they await further developments regarding their fate in the government. While the official announcement of the cabinet reshuffle is yet to be made, Ude’ s claims have intensified the anticipation surrounding the matter.
If Tinubu does proceed with the reshuffle, it could mark a significant shift in the administration, as the President looks to solidify his team and move forward with his agenda for the country.
