The peaceful town of Asese in Ogun State was thrown into chaos yesterday when a man was arrested with a human head in his possession. The suspect, identified as 25- year- old Babalola Alex, was apprehended by local police after emerging from a nearby bush. His accomplice, known only as Ijebu, managed to escape, leaving Alex to face the authorities alone.
The drama unfolded around noon when local residents, who had grown suspicious of the two men’ s movements, contacted the police. The residents had noticed the men behaving strangely as they emerged from the bush, carrying a sack. The Ogun State Police Command, which had officers on routine patrol in the area, quickly responded to the call. When the police approached, Ijebu fled, but Alex was arrested at the scene.
Assistant Superintendent Abimbola Oyeyemi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the arrest and shared further details. According to Oyeyemi, Alex initially tried to explain his presence in the bush by claiming he had gone there to relieve himself. However, the police were already alerted by a member of the public who had witnessed suspicious activity. The informant told police that while he was also in the bush, he saw the two men attempting to conceal something inside a sack, which he suspected to be a human head.
Based on the tip- off, police pursued the men, eventually arresting Alex. A search of the sack confirmed the informant’ s worst fears— it indeed contained a human head. The gruesome discovery shocked the community, leaving them to grapple with the horrific reality that their area was being used for such heinous activities.
During initial questioning, Alex revealed more disturbing information. He admitted that he and his accomplice were acting on orders from a local herbalist, who had requested the human head for a money ritual. ” We are merely errand boys, ” Alex reportedly told the police.
