The congregation at the Church of the Brethren (EYN) in Moduganari, Maiduguri, Borno State, was struck by tragedy on Sunday as their pastor, Reverend Alaku Vincent, unexpectedly passed away. The unfortunate event occurred during a child dedication ceremony, where Reverend Vincent suddenly collapsed. Efforts were made to resuscitate him, but they were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
The cause of Reverend Vincent’ s death has not been officially announced, leaving the congregation and broader community in a state of shock and mourning. Church members and friends quickly turned to social media to express their grief and share memories of their late pastor.
The District Church Secretary of the Church of the Brethren of Nigeria, Timothy Hammajam, shared his sorrow and praised Reverend Vincent’ s leadership. He described Vincent as ” a visionary leader with focus” and expressed that the 2003 graduating class of KBC DCM, where Vincent had been a prominent member, would deeply miss his wise and prophetic words. Hammajam extended his condolences to the EYN community and Vincent’ s family, praying for comfort during this challenging time.
Tributes poured in from other church members as well, including one from Prince Malikson Papaman, who posted a heartfelt message on Facebook. He described Vincent’ s passing as leaving an ” unfillable void, ” but found solace in his faith, likening the pastor’ s death to a temporary sleep as described in the Bible.
Papaman concluded his tribute with a poignant farewell: ” Rest in eternal peace, Rev. Vincent Alaku. Until we meet again. ” The heartfelt messages from those who knew Reverend Vincent speak to the profound impact he had on his congregation. His unexpected death has left the community mourning the loss of a beloved leader, whose words and presence will be deeply missed.
