Security Operatives Arrest Housewife For Dump!ng Newborn Baby In Gutter
The incident came to light after concerned residents of Karaworo alerted authorities on Sunday.
Barikisu Sulaiman, a housewife, has been taken into custody by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) after reportedly throwing her newborn baby into a gutter in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The incident came to light after concerned residents of Karaworo alerted authorities on Sunday.
The woman had been dating a man in Adankolo after her husband became ill, and following a tip-off from her close friend, she was apprehended.
According to Daily Post, Barikisu’s friend informed an elderly man in the community after becoming distressed by the sight of the abandoned baby.
The friend also revealed that Barikisu had previously confided in her about being seven months pregnant for one of her husband’s boys, identified as Angulu Namama, who is now at large.
Barikisu admitted that she discarded her one-day-old baby into the gutter after delivering him at home.
In her confession, she tearfully explained, “I cheated on my sick husband.” Despite her actions, she expressed regret, saying, “I loved my child.”
Last week, the baby boy was found alive near Kutepa Juma’at Mosque in Karaworo.
The newborn was rescued and was in good health despite being abandoned in the gutter.
Paul Igwebuike, the Commandant of the NSCDC in Kogi State, confirmed that Barikisu is in their custody. “The woman was handed over to my command by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Kogi State.”
“The crime of the woman is that she had been married to another man, with whom she has six children. The man suffered a spinal cord injury, which has rendered him invalid,” he said.
“Unfortunately, she became pregnant out of wedlock. She later threw her baby from upstairs due to the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy. We are keeping her in custody as NSCDC is collaborating with the Ministry of Women Affairs to ensure sanity in our state,” Igwebuike further stated.
The investigation into the whereabouts of Angulu Namama, the man allegedly involved in the pregnancy, is ongoing as authorities seek justice for the abandoned child.
