The woman, seemingly disoriented and unable to speak or identify herself, was found by residents of Asikolaye Street, who were shocked at the sight. Her sudden appearance and distressed state have raised suspicions about what may have happened to her.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman was well- dressed but in a visibly unstable mental state, which led many to suspect she may have been a victim of ritualistic practices, often linked to scammers known locally as ” yahoo boys. ” A resident, who gave his name as Baba Lekan, stated that the woman was not present during the weekend, and it was only on Monday morning that they noticed her abandoned by the roadside.
Baba Lekan shared his concerns with other residents, expressing the fear that the woman might have been used for a money ritual. ” We suspect that she has fallen prey to those yahoo yahoo guys. They must have used her for money ritual, ” he stated with a worried tone. The entire community seemed to share his concerns, particularly given the rise in similar incidents in recent times.
In response, local shop owners and residents took swift action by reporting the incident to the police, demanding immediate intervention to ensure the woman’ s safety and well- being. Through their lawyer, Barrister K. A. Adebisi, the shop owners submitted a formal letter to the Dugbe Police Station at Old Garage, Osogbo, seeking urgent help.
The letter was signed on behalf of business owners and residents of Number 1 Asikolaye Street, led by representatives like Mr. Sikiru Sanni, also known as Samrad Property Agency, and Mrs. Bamigbola, known as Mama Dada. In their letter, they expressed grave concern for the abandoned woman’ s condition, emphasizing the importance of immediate action from the authorities to prevent further harm.
The letter reads: ” We act on behalf of the business owners and residents, represented by Mr. Sikiru Sanni (Samrad Property Agency), Mrs. Bamigbola (Mama Dada), and others, to urgently inform your good office of an abandoned middle- aged woman who they woke up to observe this morning, September 30, 2024, when they opened their business premises for today’ s activities. ”
The residents highlighted the need for swift action, noting, ” Sir, we therefore urgently request your good office to take immediate and necessary actions to avoid any untoward consequences. ”
The letter concluded with an appeal to the police to act in the public interest, ensuring safety and security for everyone. ” As we perform our civic duties as good citizens of this country, we hope that your good office shall respond to our report in public interest, safety, and security. ”
