Tensions at Christian Methodist Senior High School (Chrimeto) in Ghana recently intensified when students allegedly attacked teachers for enforcing strict exam rules during the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Reports indicate that the conflict erupted after students, frustrated by the rigid adherence to examination protocols, began throwing stones at their teachers. One of the educators, Adanunyo, shared his alarming experience in an interview with TV3, detailing how he and the Head of Department received threats from students regarding potential violence if they did not ease their supervision.

” After the integrated science paper, we were warned that students would harm us if we didn’ t relax the supervision, ” Adanunyo stated. The situation worsened the following day when, without any police presence, students escalated their actions, launching stones and water sachets at the teachers. Adanunyo reported that he, along with three permanent teachers and two support staff, became the focal point of the students’ anger.
” I suggested we leave, but some students took alternative routes and confronted us halfway, accusing me of being too strict and not allowing cheating, ” he recounted. This incident highlights the challenges educators face in maintaining academic integrity amidst increasing pressure from students.
