Death PENALT! Some Nigerians Want These Politicians To Be KILLED Hours After OBASANJO Revealed This
Nigerians under the auspice of Wadata Media and Advocacy Center, WAMAC, a Non- Governmental Organization, have called for the death penalty for some politicians across the country.
According to the report, the group in a statement made available to the newsmen by its executive director, Zubair Abdurra’ uf, said the corrupt politicians and other citizens that stole public funds should be killed.
He made this known on Saturday in Lokoja during the organization’ s town hall meeting in Kogi State on strengthening investigative data journalism in the fight against corruption in Nigerian local languages.
His words, ” I think it is better we take a cue from China which has capital punishment for corrupt officials. I will advocate for the death penalty for any corrupt person in Nigeria because that will deter others from even engaging in any corrupt practice” .
Speaking further, he said corruption is the major reason why there is bad governance across the country, therefore, a drastic action to checkmate the corrupt practice needs to be introduced.
” Corruption continues to thrive in our country and that is why we have the issues of bad governance and maladministration in Nigeria, ” he said.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that the group’ s statement comes after former President Olusegun Obasanjo said many politicians in the country supposed to be behind bars for the corrupt and criminal misconduct.
Obasanjo claimed that it will be impossible for the country to develop while there are corrupt politicians in leadership positions. He said Nigerians ” cannot expect thieves to give good judgement in favour of the owner of the property. ”
” If you look clinically at the people in government today at both executive and legislative levels, some of them should be permanently behind bars for their past misdemeanour and criminal misconduct, ” the former President said while speaking virtually at the memorial lecture of Denis Joseph Slattery.
The lecturer was organised by the Old Boys’ Association of St. Finbarr’ s College in remembrance of the late Irish- born missionary who sojourned to Ilawe- Ekiti, Nigeria in 1941.
