FROM Polling Unit To PRISON! Tension In Edo As EFCC Arrests Vote- Buyers; SEE Their Party
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested several individuals suspected of engaging in vote- buying during the Edo State Governorship election.
The arrests took place in Egor Local Government Area at around 10: 00 am on election day. Among the suspects taken into custody were two males and one female.
Eyewitnesses in the area claimed that the suspects were being unjustly victimized, sparking a minor protest from some residents. Despite this, the EFCC operatives remained firm, leading the suspects away for further investigation.
The EFCC had earlier announced its commitment to ensuring a free and fair election, deploying officials across the state to monitor electoral activities. Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the agency, emphasized the need for electoral integrity and the EFCC’ s stance against vote- buying.
” Our operatives have been deployed to monitor the conduct of the elections. We are committed to the attainment of electoral integrity by ensuring that voters cast their votes democratically without any form of financial inducement, ” Oyewale said. ” Vote buying is a financial crime, and the EFCC won’ t allow it anywhere. ”
In a separate development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) praised the youths of Edo State for their bravery in apprehending thugs allegedly linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to reports, the thugs were attempting to smuggle firearms into the state on the eve of the election.
The PDP extended its gratitude to the security forces who assisted in the arrest, noting that the weapons were seemingly intended to cause violence and disrupt the peaceful election process. The party also urged the authorities to ensure that the arrested individuals face justice.

” The PDP demands that the Police ensure that none of the apprehended APC thugs escapes justice but are appropriately prosecuted, ” the party stated.
Despite the tensions, the PDP encouraged the people of Edo State to remain peaceful, vigilant, and determined to protect their votes in the ongoing governorship election.
This election marks a critical moment for Edo State, as citizens and political stakeholders work together to safeguard democratic principles amid efforts to undermine the electoral process.
