Fear As Thugs Sponsored By APC Got Arrested With Deadly WEAPONS- VIDEO
Security operatives in Edo State have reportedly arrested thugs allegedly sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC), who were found in possession of guns and other dangerous weapons. This incident occurred in the buildup to the off- cycle governorship election scheduled to take place in Edo State on September 21st, 2024.
The incident came to light through a video shared by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle late on Friday. The video purportedly shows the moment security officers intercepted and arrested the suspects, who were traveling in a Sienna vehicle.
During the operation, the security personnel recovered firearms and other suspicious materials from the individuals, further fueling concerns about the security of the upcoming election. Throughout the video, background voices can be heard repeatedly accusing the APC of sending the thugs to disrupt the electoral process.
Along with the video, the PDP made a public post accusing the APC of attempting to smuggle weapons into Edo State ahead of the governorship election. The post read: ” Security Operatives and the people of Edo State apprehend @OfficialAPCNg thugs trying to smuggle guns into Edo State ahead of Saturday’ s governorship election.
” The PDP commended the vigilance and bravery of Edo State residents and the security forces for their swift action in preventing what could have been a major threat to the safety of the election. They emphasized that the determination of the people of Edo would ensure that only the true will of the electorate prevails in the election.
As of the time this report was filed, the APC had not issued an official statement or response regarding the allegations and the video circulated by the PDP. The absence of a reaction from the APC has left room for speculation, although it is common for political parties to face accusations of orchestrating violence or electoral malpractice during high- stakes elections.
The forthcoming Edo State governorship election will see three major contenders battling for the governorship seat: Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, Monday Okpebholo of the APC, and Olumide Akpata, representing the Labour Party (LP).
With the arrest of the alleged thugs and the political atmosphere becoming more charged, the election is expected to be closely watched by both local and national observers. Security will likely be heightened in the days leading up to the election to prevent further disturbances and ensure that the voting process remains peaceful and transparent.
In conclusion, the arrest of the alleged APC thugs has added a tense dimension to the already competitive governorship race. All eyes will be on the political parties involved, particularly the APC, as the public awaits their response to the serious allegations leveled against them. The people of Edo State and the rest of the nation are hopeful that the election will be conducted fairly and without violence, allowing the true choice of the electorate to emerge victorious.
