The Osun State Police Command has made a disturbing discovery, arresting seven individuals involved in the trafficking of human remains and the sale of water used to cleanse corpses. This horrifying practice has left many in shock, as the suspects were attempting to profit from the sale of human body parts and water used in preparing bodies for burial rites.
The arrests were confirmed by the acting Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Police Command, Emmanuel Giwa- Alade. According to him, the suspects include two mortuary workers, Johnson Daniel, aged 43, and Adetunji Okunade, aged 42, who were at the heart of this illegal operation. Alongside them, other individuals apprehended include Olaniyan Azeez, Balogun Temitope, Oladapo Hammed, Kazeem Rasaq, and Asaka Rauf.
Giwa- Alade explained that the arrests were made after a tip- off from a concerned citizen, who provided crucial information leading to the exposure of the group’ s illegal activities. The information revealed that Johnson Daniel, a mortuary attendant in Ipetu- Ijesa, was selling human remains from the mortuary to traditional herbalists, who then used the body parts for ritual purposes.
The acting PRO further disclosed that Daniel had been collaborating with his colleague, Adetunji Okunade, to sell the water used in cleansing corpses before burial to local native doctors. This water, considered sacred by those involved in traditional rituals, was sold for various ritualistic purposes.
During the police investigation, searches were conducted at the homes of the suspects, leading to the recovery of several disturbing items. Human skull fragments were discovered at the residences of Asaka Rauf and Oladapo Hammed. Additionally, a female undergarment and a notebook containing instructions on ritual practices were seized from the home of Balogun Temitope Asimiyu.
Fagbuyi’ s speech, which was delivered while he waved the Yoruba Nation flag, encouraged citizens to seek independence from Nigeria. His actions, which could incite unrest, led to his arrest.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry. As the investigation progressed, two additional suspects, Joy Faseyiku, aged 63, and Alabede Janet, aged 64, were arrested in connection with Fagbuyi’ s campaign. They were apprehended in Osogbo and Ikire, respectively.
After concluding the investigation, the suspects were charged to the Federal High Court, where they will face trial for their involvement in these illegal activities. The Osun State Police Command continues to appeal to the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement.
