‘Peter Obi BETRAYED US’- Abure- Led LP Faction Cries Out, Reveals Details Of How 2023 Election Affected Labour Party
The Julius Abure- led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has publicly accused Peter Obi, the party’ s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, and Abia State Governor Alex Otti of betrayal. This accusation comes in the wake of recent developments surrounding the party’ s leadership and its legal challenges.
On Wednesday, the faction expressed their discontent after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced it no longer recognizes Abure as the National Chairman of the LP. INEC’ s announcement followed its counter- affidavit in response to a lawsuit filed by the Labour Party. The commission argued that the party’ s leadership, including Abure, is invalid due to alleged violations of the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act during the March 2024 National Convention.
According to INEC, the Labour Party failed to meet the legal requirements for holding its national convention, thus invalidating its leadership. INEC stated, ” It only deals with parties that have legitimate leadership in place, ” further emphasizing that the party’ s suit for declaratory reliefs was not supported by sufficient evidence.
The Abure- led faction, through its spokesperson Obiora Ifoh, criticized Obi and Otti for what they described as a lack of support during a critical period. ” The Labour Party leadership is disheartened by the actions of our leaders, including Peter Obi and our only Labour Party governor, Dr. Alex Otti, who should be standing by the party during this challenging time, ” Ifoh stated. He added, ” Many Nigerians will remember how the Labour Party welcomed these leaders when they were denied tickets in their previous parties. Now, they seem to have turned their backs on us. What a shame, what a betrayal. ”
The accusations highlight a deepening rift within the Labour Party as it grapples with internal and external challenges. The faction’ s claims underscore the complex dynamics and struggles faced by the party in the wake of the 2023 elections.
