A new plan to remove Muhammad Sanusi II from his position as the Emir of Kano is reportedly underway. According to sources from the Kofar Kudu Palace, several powerful figures in Kano are working towards this goal, allegedly led by Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The goal is to remove the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor from his role as the 16th Emir of Kano and the Chairman of the Kano Council of Chiefs. A reliable source revealed that Ganduje’ s primary focus is to gain support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in order to finalize his plan to dethrone Sanusi.
At the same time, he is also pressuring the current Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, to step down. This strategy is being presented as an effort to resolve leadership disputes within the state.
Ganduje, who has had previous conflicts with Emir Sanusi, has reportedly gathered a group of loyal supporters from Kano’ s APC members. This group includes influential politicians, business leaders, and traders, all working together to convince President Tinubu to support Ganduje’ s long- standing mission to remove Sanusi from power.
This latest development follows a history of clashes between Ganduje and Sanusi. In 2020, Ganduje played a significant role in the controversial removal of Sanusi as the emir.
Now, Ganduje’ s strategy seems to involve using presidential influence to permanently remove Emir Sanusi from his position. Surprisingly, he is also pushing for Aminu Ado Bayero, who is currently serving as the emir, to step down in the name of achieving peace.
The source further explained that Ganduje has carefully selected his supporters to ensure their loyalty to him. This group includes a prominent business leader from Kano, key politicians, traders, and other important figures from Kano’ s political and business scene. Together, they are pushing for the removal of both emirs, claiming it will settle leadership tensions in the Kano Emirate.
The true objective, however, seems clear. Ganduje and his supporters want to use President Tinubu’ s intervention to finish Ganduje’ s mission of removing Emir Sanusi.
While their efforts are presented as a way to restore peace, the real intention appears to be gaining complete control over the emirate, a traditional institution that has long resisted Ganduje’ s influence.
This ongoing plot is another chapter in the prolonged rivalry between Ganduje and Emir Sanusi, which started years ago. Now, Ganduje aims to use his political connections to bring this chapter to a close by ousting Sanusi and, in a surprising move, asking Aminu Ado Bayero to step down as well, all under the banner of achieving peace in the state.
