More information about Christianah Idowu’ s murder by her churchgoer and friend, Ayomide Ayodele, a 200- level philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ogun State, has come to light. According to earlier reports, the suspect confessed to killing Christianah.
Christianah vanished from sight on the 19th of last month, shortly after leaving Ita Oluwo to enrol in an industrial training (IT) program at the University of Lagos in Yaba. After military personnel from the 174 Battalion of the Nigerian Army tracked Ayomide’ s phone to his residence in Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Sunday of this week, she was taken into custody.
The boy identified himself as a phone repair technician and denied knowing Christianah’ s location. He claimed that unidentified individuals delivered the phone for repair without asking him any questions. The Foundation for Investigative Journalists (FIJ) has recently disclosed that Christianah and Ayomide had a past together, having attended the same Ogun State school, living in the same neighbourhood (Ita Oluwo), and visiting the same church. ” On Sunday (September 1st), the girl who usually goes to UNILAG on weekends left her home as usual, ” a source informed. ” She proceeded to Ayomide’ s family’ s shop, which is located right outside his house, as the rain began to fall. ”
The boy disclosed all while under arrest. When the rain got really heavy, he invited her into his house, even though all she intended to do was spend a short time there before going back to her own. Ayomide tried to sleep with her while they were inside, but she refused, so he killed her. ” He texted her mother on WhatsApp at 8: 50 p. m. that day (the day after the murder) and said, ” Hello, Madam, you’ ve got such a gorgeous daughter. ” To see her again, how much are you ready to pay? She is here with us. ” After Christianah passed away, Ayomide photographed her and sent it to her mother over WhatsApp. Using his hand to prop up her face, he demanded a ransom of N3 million, promising her mother a mere 24 hours to accept or she would be killed and her parts auctioned.
Ayomide feigned to be from northern Nigeria for almost a week as he conducted WhatsApp negotiations with the family. Later, he added that if the money was given quickly, he would accept N400, 000. He disclosed on the 21st of the previous month that he was an organ harvester and that if her ransom wasn’ t paid, he had no problem killing her and selling her parts.
According to him, ” My work is to get young and healthy people, btw the ages of 18- 40, and your daughter is very well in that age bracket. ” One may wonder why we require a ransom. We contact the relatives of the persons we have if there isn’ t now a need for organs. If they comply with our requests, we set them free. If they don’ t, there will always be a need for the harvesters. ” Madam, I won’ t lose anything. The harvesters will pay if you don’ t, and they will pay at least N1. 5 million for a healthy body. If you give me less than N1. 5 million, I’ ll help you. However, her mother, a widow, claimed that the donations from her church would only be able to raise N350, 000. He instructed her to notify Christianah’ s schoolmates so they could contribute to the ransom.
He wrote, ” Don’ t you think it will be nice if her school friends are aware of the situation because it occurred to me that no one of them is aware; you don’ t think they could help you, madam, with your cause? ” Because Ayomide was chatting with Christianah’ s friends and feigning care for her while gathering information from them, he was aware of this. He learnt that they were unaware of the ransom from their conversation. In keeping with his identity, he made an email address with a northern name.
He had also provided her mother with a SportyBet account (Wema Bank: 9336380839) transfer; therefore, the purpose of the email was to obtain a statement of account verifying the ransom payment. Nevertheless, the army blocked the account when Christianah’ s mother sent N350, 000. He was unable to access the account, so he sent an email to musaahmed0288@gmail. com requesting a statement of account.
After that, he urged Christianah’ s mother to transfer additional funds to her daughter’ s bank account so he could make a withdrawal. She sent N10, 000 and pleaded with him to release her daughter, but he objected, stating the amount was insufficient and that he would contact her after the ransom was received. The dead man’ s phone was tracked by the army on Sunday, September 1, to Ayomide’ s home, where they picked him up. Seven phones were visible on him. Before demanding a ransom, he acknowledged killing her on the first day and burying her in a shallow grave inside his complex.
