Tinubu In SERIOUS Trouble? Tension In ASO- ROCK As Yoruba Elders Turn Against Him, Blast His Govt
The Yoruba elders under the auspice of pan- Yoruba socio- cultural and socio- political organization, Afenifere, has voiced its disappointment over the economic condition of Nigeria under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
The group, known for its advocacy for the welfare and rights of the Yoruba people, expressed concern that the current administration has left Nigerians in a worse state than when it took office a year ago.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its quarterly meeting held on Tuesday at Isanya- Ogbo, Ogun State, and presided over by the Deputy Leader, Oladipo Olaitan, Afenifere articulated its grievances about the widespread hardships plaguing the nation.
The organisation noted that Nigeria is grappling with severe issues such as pervasive hardship, hunger, insecurity, and high unemployment rates, all of which have been exacerbated since Tinubu assumed office.
The communiqué stated, ” Afenifere noted that the Nigerian people are sorely troubled by the pervasive hardship, crippling hunger, unremitting insecurity in the land, runaway inflation, massive unemployment, etc. all of which have left the people worse off than they were at the beginning. ”
The group further criticised the Tinubu- led administration for its approach to managing public funds, describing it as lacking in foresight and purpose.
The elders condemned the government’ s actions against journalists and media organizations, which it views as an infringement on the freedom of the press and expression.
They called on the government to respect Section 39 of the Nigerian Constitution, which guarantees the freedom of the press and the right to express opinions without fear of repression.
The communiqué stated, ” Afenifere also objected to the present harassment of media professionals while performing their jobs and urged the government to familiarise itself with Section 39 of the Constitution, which protects the freedom of the press and expression. “
