Following the implementation of its plans and programs, President Bola Tinubu who succeeded former President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29, 2023 has made a number of difficult decisions.
In an effort to reorganize the nation, Tinubu has fired a number of key officials from the Buhari presidency and appointed ones he believe can help drive his government to promise land. Here is the list of some principal officers who have been sacked by President Tinubu:
*On June 9, 2023, President Tinubu suspended Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), replaced him with Olayemi Cardoso.
*On July 14, 2023, President Tinubu suspended Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), replaced him with Olanipekun Olukoyede.
*On June 19, the President fired every service chief that Buhari had chosen. Nuhu Ribadu took over as National Security Advisor on the same day that President Tinubu fired the service chiefs, replacing Maj- Gen Babagana Monguno (rtd).
*Additionally, President Tinubu fired Bashir Gwandu, the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice Chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).
*The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), headed by Lauretta Onochie, had its board and management dissolved by the President in August.
*In 2023, President Tinubu gave Engr. Aliyu Abubakar Aziz, the Director- General and CEO of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), instructions to start a 90- day pre- retirement leave.
*On September 1, 2023, President Tinubu dismissed the nominees for the Ondo and Cross River NDDCs and made new appointments.
*On Thursday, September 14, President Tinubu fired Muhammad Nami, the head of FIRS, and named Zacchaeus Adedeji, his special adviser on revenue, as the acting chairman of the tax commission.
*In October, President Bola Tinubu announced the removal of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) from Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment agencies. The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) was one of the institutions that was impacted.
*On December 13, 2023, President Bola Tinubu gave his approval for the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) under the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development to be suspended, removed, and replaced.
*On January 8, 2024, President Tinubu gave his approval for Babatunde Irukera to be fired immediately from his position as EVC/CEO of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
*Alexander Ayoola Okoh, the Director- General and CEO of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), was also dismissed with approval from the President. On June 15, 2024, President Bola Tinubu issued an order for Mr. Mamman Ahmadu to resign from his position as Director- General and Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
*On July 15, 2024, Tinubu fired Adekanmbi and appointed Prof. Zabbey as the new HYPREP Coordinator.
*On August 26, 2024, President Bola Tinubu gave his approval for the nomination of new directors general for the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
*On August 19, 2024, President Tinubu removed Jalal Arabi from his role as Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and named Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman as the organization’ s new Executive Chairman.
