In the video, Amaka made inflammatory remarks, calling for the mass poisoning of South- Western Nigerians and the people of Benin, the capital of Edo State. The video quickly gained traction on social media, leading to widespread condemnation.
The video, which was reportedly recorded during a live meeting on TikTok, showed Amaka urging fellow Igbos, a major ethnic group in southeastern Nigeria, to target Yorubas from the South- West and the Benins from the South- South regions.
Speaking in Pidgin English, she encouraged viewers to poison the food and water of these groups, expressing her intense hatred and desire to cause them harm.
In her alarming message, Amaka said, ” It is time to start poisoning the Yorubas and the Benins. Put poison in all your foods at work. Put poison in all your water so that you all will start dying one- by- one. ”
She continued to describe her plan, mentioning various types of poisons, including Otapiapia, a common rat poison in Nigeria. She also expressed her hatred by stating, ” This kind of hatred I have for you people will last forever. ”
Her statements shocked many and quickly drew the attention of Nigerians both in Canada and around the world. In response, a group of Nigerians living in Canada took immediate action by reporting Amaka to the local authorities. The backlash was so intense that Amaka reportedly deleted her TikTok account shortly after the video began circulating.
On the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), a user with the handle @Abikedabiri shared a post identifying Amaka as the person behind the hate speech.
The post read: ” This is the picture of the lady behind the voice. Amaka Patience Sunnberger. She has deleted her TikTok account and a group of Nigerians in Canada are reporting her officially to the relevant authorities in Canada. Thanks for alerting everyone. ”
The incident has sparked a broader discussion about hate speech and the responsibilities of social media platforms in monitoring and regulating such content. Many have called for stricter measures to prevent the spread of incitement and violence online.
Authorities in Canada are reportedly looking into the case, though it remains unclear what legal consequences Amaka may face. The situation highlights the importance of vigilance in online spaces and the role of communities in standing against hate speech and violence.
As of now, there has been no official statement from Amaka regarding the video or the subsequent actions taken against her. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the power of words and the serious repercussions that can follow when individuals use social media to spread messages of hate and violence.
