Simon Ekpa, a self- proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, has expressed outrage after a viral video surfaced on X (formerly Twitter).
In the video, a journalist from TVC mistakenly referred to the Shiite group as the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Ekpa shared his concerns on X, citing the incident as an example of growing animosity between the Yoruba and Igbo communities.
In a post cited by the LATEST_NEWS Blog, Ekpa expressed his frustration, emphasizing the deep level of hatred he believes exists between the Yoruba and the Igbo people. He stated that this animosity is fueling his determination to push for Biafra’ s independence.
Ekpa’ s statement read: ” Now watch how Yoruba Afonja Journalists hate Biafra, the level of hate is like that of holocaust. She was already calling Shiite groups the proscribed Indigenous people of Biafra in Abuja. This is worrisome and I am becoming more dangerously agitated to declare Biafra ASAP! ”
Violent Clash In Abuja Sparks Controversy
This reaction follows a violent clash in the Wuse area of Abuja, where two police officers lost their lives, and three others were left unconscious after a confrontation between police operatives and members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as the Shiites.
Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, confirmed the attack, describing it as unprovoked. During the clash, IMN members reportedly destroyed three police patrol vehicles and launched an attack on officers at Wuse Junction.
Weapons Used In The Attack
The attackers were reportedly armed with dangerous weapons, including machetes, improvised explosive devices (homemade bombs made with bottles and kerosene), and knives.
Police Response And Arrests
In response to the violent clash, FCT Police Commissioner Benneth Igweh condemned the attack and vowed to bring those responsible to justice. Several arrests have been made, and the police have since restored order in the area.
” The Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, strongly condemns this unprovoked attack on police officers. He has promised to bring the perpetrators to justice. The situation is now under control, and normalcy has been restored, ” Adeh said.
The FCT Police Command has promised to provide further updates on the situation as investigations continue.
