The Southeast Governors’ lack of response to the deteriorating security situation in the area has been criticized by Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading Igbo socio- culturalll group.
The governors were chastised by the organization for their inability to adequately communicate with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to obtain the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement released on Sunday, the group’ s secretary- general, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, denounced the governors’ careless behavior, claiming that it has enabled individuals such as Simon Ekpa who is currently based in Finland to manipulate public opinion and sabotage economic activity by announcing lockdowns.
The group urged the governors of the Southeast to take charge of the region’ s security as the top law enforcement officials and to use creative, regional solutions to deal with the security issues facing Igbo territory.
Along with disobeying Simon Ekpa’ s lockout, the organization urged all Ndigbo to fend off intimidating tactics used by criminal elements. ” As schools prepare to reopen amid ongoing economic challenges, it is essential that we remain resolute against external threats to our stability.
” Ohanaeze Ndigbo reiterates its commitment to advocating for genuine solutions to our security crisis, urging Southeast Governors to step up as leaders. The time for action is now; we implore our leaders to reclaim control of the Southeast and protect our people from the trepidations that loom, ” the group noted.
The group also reaffirmed its dedication to pushing for real solutions to the security issue and urged the governors of Southeast Asia to act quickly to regain control of the area and protect the Ndigbo people.
Ohanaeze believes if the federal government releases Nnamdi Kanu, the security crisis in the southeast region will be a thing of the past as Ekpa will stop giving orders to his boys. Do you agree with this?
