SEE Unexpected CALAMITY APC Said Will Befall Jonathan If He Contests Against Tinubu In 2027
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to the growing speculation that former President Goodluck Jonathan is under pressure to contest for the presidency in the 2027 election.
The National Director of Publicity for the APC, Bala Ibrahim, dismissed any concerns about Jonathan possibly running against President Bola Tinubu on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that Jonathan would face certain defeat.
Ibrahim emphasized that it is too early to start discussions about the 2027 elections, as President Tinubu has only been in office for a little over a year. He pointed out that less than 40% of the mandate given to the APC in the 2023 election has been utilized, making any talk of future elections premature.
In response to rumors about Jonathan being considered as a possible PDP candidate, Ibrahim expressed confidence in the APC’ s ability to defeat him again. He recalled the 2015 election, in which Jonathan was defeated by the APC, even though he was the incumbent president at the time. Ibrahim was firm in his belief that defeating Jonathan now, when he is out of power, would be an even easier task for the ruling party.
He stated, ” There is just no way the APC as a party will be jittery, if at all, there is such a plan to enroll former President Goodluck Jonathan into the race. The APC defeated him when he was in power. Defeating him when he’ s out of power will be a walkover. ”
When asked about political analysts’ opinions that the APC’ s 2015 victory over Jonathan was largely due to former President Muhammadu Buhari’ s widespread support, Ibrahim dismissed the notion. He credited Tinubu’ s leadership within the APC as a key factor in their victory over Jonathan.
He added that the party’ s organizational strength was more critical than Buhari’ s personal following. Ibrahim further asserted that if Jonathan accepts the PDP’ s offer to run against Tinubu in 2027, history will repeat itself.
According to him, the APC will again defeat Jonathan, regardless of whether Buhari is involved in the campaign. ” Forget about the shenanigans that are on display now. When it’ s time for election, the party will readily package its candidate and match them for the consumption of the people, ” he confidently remarked.
Though he acknowledged that it is within Jonathan’ s democratic rights to consider another run for the presidency, Ibrahim reiterated that the APC remains unshaken by the possibility. He stressed that there is no need to speculate on future elections when the current administration still has much time left to govern.
In conclusion, Ibrahim made it clear that the APC is not worried about any potential challenges from Jonathan or the PDP in the 2027 elections. For now, he urged patience and a focus on the present, stating that any discussions about future candidates and elections are premature.
