Governor marries out daughter, says it’s family’s first marriage in 142 years
The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has married out his first daughter, Adaora, in marriage to Mr Arinze Ibekwe, an indigene of Odoje village, in Onitsha North Local Government Area of the state.
The traditional marriage, which was performed on Saturday at the governor’s home town in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of the state, was attended by several dignitaries, government officials and traditional rulers.
Soludo, who took to his verified Facebook page, said the traditional marriage was the first in his family in the past 142 years.
He said this was because of the scarcity of female children in his family, until he broke the jinx, as God blessed him with four female children.
The governor stated that by marrying his daughter off to Arinze, he had gained another son.
Soludo wrote, “In the presence of my family, kinsmen, friends, and my in-laws from Onitsha, I gave out my lovely daughter, Ifeatu Adaora Soludo, to her heartthrob after all traditional rites had been met and certified in line with the customs of the Isuofia community.
“I celebrate this historic event for two reasons. First, God has graciously blessed the larger Soludo family with another such marital union after 142 years (by my estimate).
“This is largely due to the fact that female children have been a rarity in the past three generations of the Soludo family. To break that “jinx,” God has mercifully provided me with four beautiful daughters, whom I celebrate every day.”
Soludo also wished the couple a blessed/fruitful marriage and enjoined them to respect all traditional and Christian matrimonial rites to raise happy and blissful family members that would sustain the Soludo’s legacy.
In his short speech with the press after the event, the Spokesperson of the husband’s family, Oseloka Oranusi, assured Soludo and his wife, Nonye, that their daughter would be well taken care of.
Other dignitaries that attended the ceremony were Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, Senator Andy Ubah, the House of Representatives member representing Ihiala Federal Constituency, Pascal Agbodike, and a former House of Representatives member, Orumba North and South, Hon. Okwudili Ezenwankwo.
Others were the Anambra State Speaker, Somtochukwu Udeze, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, Hon. Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, former House of Assembly member, Hon. Pharm. Obinna Emenaka, Anambra Permanent Secretary, Hon. Dr Nwabufo Nwankwo, MD/CEO ACTDA, Hon. Ossy Onuko(Ifeigbo), Commissioner for Environment, Engr Felix Odimegwu, among others.
